Town of West Sweden- Monthly Meeting
May 21. 2015
Meeting was called to order by Simon Nelson at 7:00 pm. Members present
were Glenn Meier and Scott Wilder, supervisors; Brenda Tesch, treasurer, Kevin
Taylor, patrolman and Phyllis Wilder, clerk. Residents present: Lori Lundquist,
Mary Schommer, Walter Schommer, Carol Schommer, Bill Schommer, and Ken Ruhn.
The minutes to the April meeting were presented by the clerk. The board thanked the clerk for the report.
The financial statement for April was presented by the treasurer. The
board thanked her for the report.
Public input: Walter Schommer
represented the Schommer family that lives around Diamond Lake on 150th
Street sharing their concerns of the speed at which people driving through that
area. Walking in that area is a safety
concern for them. They would like to see the speed limit changed to 45 mph on
150th from 360th to 345th .
Walter had talked with Steve Smith of the Polk County Sheriff’s department and
Steve had told him that all the town would need to do to change the speed limit
was to fill out a form and the county would enforce the speed limit. The county would also put up a machine that
would flash the rate of speed a vehicle is going.
Lori Lundquist added that many
townships in the area have posted 45 mph speed limits.
The board stated that they would investigate the process and discuss at
the next board meeting.
Employee report: Kevin reported that the culvert on 325th
Avenue was replaced with plastic culvert. He has ordered mower blades which
totaled $193.00 for six blades for mower.
Work to be done on 360th next week. Equipment working well. Kevin has installed round reflective signs by
Diamond Lake and the Gandy Dancer.
Old Business:
A. Road Inspection: Work on 160th needs to
be done where the road breaks up, this will require digging bad spots out and
adding gravel. Crack sealing and chip sealing is needed on
New Business:
A. The clerk will publish the request
for road improvements bids to be submitted for crack sealing on 310th and
315th Avenues as well as on 130th and 140th streets. Chip
sealing bids for 310th Avenue. All bids to be opened at next board
meeting.
Correspondence: Robert
Hermanek inquired about installing solar panels at his residence; no permits
are required by the town.
All bills approved and paid.
Next meeting will be June 16, at
6:30 pm.
